Re: Team Vs Bournemouth
Two things Stirling - Bournemouth are no mugs, they can play a bit. But it's not just about protecting the defense - Tomkins would provide a commanding presence in the centre of the park and would play a vital part in building attacks from the back.

Re: Team Vs Bournemouth
Ffa,....tomlkins in front of the defence? This was the type of bollocks BFS tried + it did not work + I fckg hated it. Home game v a newly promoted club that has lost 2 games and no premiership history and we're worried about protecting the back 4?

Go for the cunts today and aim for 3 points rather than protecting the defence.

Re: Team Vs Bournemouth
I wouldn't play Tomkins in midfield.

The other option is to play Payet up front like Zarate off Sakho.

Obiang
Kouyate Noble
Nolan
Sakho Payet

Re: Team Vs Bournemouth
Comma, I was about to say the same thing. I think Tomkins could do really well in that role just in front of the defense - would suit him down to the ground.

Re: Team Vs Bournemouth
I would select the defence as with Hearney's choice. Noble and Kouyate too. Payet is a must and Obieng. However a five man midfield consisting of three players new to the premiership looks a big risk for me so I would not start Lanzini in there. Problem is we are not spoilt for choice as to who else to pick. Downing gone, Amalfitano out of favour, Poyet loaned out. Bilic will not subject Oxford to the non role he had last week and this means Nolan looms large. What I would do though is play Tomkins in front of the defence to see how that goes. It gives us Lanzini in reserve and keeps the mobile chicane off the pitch.

I reckon too that he has given the squad a Squibb up their rectums after what he said about Leicester outdoing us for the first half last week.

Re: Team Vs Bournemouth
Maybe 3 at the back of Tomkins, Reid and Ogbonna with the two wing backs of Cresswell and Jenks pushing up

Diamond of Obiang, Noble, Kouyate and Payet with Sakho up top

Really Nolan instead of Obiang, clutching there.

Re: Team Vs Bournemouth
im hoping maybe it's a midfield trio
Two wide men

Kouyate Nolan Noble
Lanzini Payet
Sakho

Re: Team Vs Bournemouth
I agree it's baffling, why not play Lanzini alongside Payet.

Shows how shit maiga is though doesn't it.

Thing is though Fraser, Bilic very rarely played with 2 strikers at Besiktas which was even more baffling for me the way we set up from the start this year in a diamond.

NSd good points or maybe just maybe he's lucky our other forward is Maiga..

Re: Team Vs Bournemouth
Nolan must be one of the best trainers in football for him to get picked to start this often. Either that or there's something in that contract of his.

Re: Team Vs Bournemouth
Unfathomable.

Like opting to play with 10 men. We'll be swamped.

A turd in goal, and a useless fat lump stinking up the middle.

Sven Roeder 9:36 Sat Aug 22
Re: Team Vs Bournemouth
Jarvis is the more obvious option.
We struggled against Leicester until Zarate went wider on the left and gave us some width.
With Nolan I fear another set up and performance as per last weeks first half. Slow moving , trying to bash through the middle and vulnerable out wide.

Nolan starting? FFS

Agree Stubbo, Jarvis over Nolan all day.

Re: Team Vs Bournemouth
Re. Tomkins, if that's true...doesn't the squad realise that it's a squad game? You can't all play all the games. I'm sure by season end he'll have played between 20 and 30 games for us.

I'd have liked to see Tomkins get first go at forming a partnership with Ogbonna, but they didn't look good together against Astra, and frankly as a combination Reid and Ogbonna have looked better from what I've seen.

I also think Ogbonna has been our best defender across the two matches in the league so far.

Disappointing about Nolan today...he just offers nothing in that position anymore. Would rather Jarvis was in frankly.

Personally, I'd have gone:

------------------Spiegel

Jenks--Reid-----------Ogbonna--Cresswell

-------------------Obiang

-----Noble---------------------Kouyate

---------------------Payet

----Jarvis--------------------------Sakho

Spiegel purely on the basis saw him make some great saves in one of the pre-season games, and Randolph looks like an accident waiting to happen every time.

Jarvis because it at least gives us pace, movement, workrate, and fluidity up top.

I know fraser but no one is going to have a pop at Bilic over it.

Can you recall his last goal at home ?
Today it is exactly 18 months since that happened on 22 Feb 2014 v Southampton

Re: Team Vs Bournemouth
I think the level of jip towards Nolan might go up today a notch if he starts and does poorly.
